NEW YORK, NY (November 6, 2025)—Little, Brown Books for Young Readers (LBYR), a division of Hachette Book Group (HBG), announced today strategic changes to their editorial structure—including the launch of an exciting new boutique imprint and the establishment of two distinct editorial groups.
Acclaimed editor Alvina Ling will be promoted to Vice President, Publisher of a new imprint. Ling, a recipient of the Medal for Editorial Excellence from the Center for Fiction, has been Vice President, Editor-in-Chief since 2014 and recently celebrated 25 years with LBYR. Ling is renowned for her impressive bevy of award winners, including Grace Lin’s WHERE THE MOUNTAIN MEETS THE MOON (Newbery Honor), A BIG MOONCAKE FOR A LITTLE STAR (Caldecott Honor), and WHEN THE SEA TURNED SILVER (National Book Award finalist); BEAR CAME ALONG by Richard T. Morris, illustrated by LeUyen Pham (Caldecott Honor); DAVE THE POTTER by Laban Carrick Hill, illustrated by Bryan Collier (Coretta Scott King Illustrator Award, Caldecott Honor); and STRANGE THE DREAMER by Laini Taylor (Printz Honor); among others. In addition to these impressive accolades, she has launched the #1 bestselling series THE LAND OF STORIES by Chris Colfer, Holly Black’s FOLK OF THE AIR AND NOVELS OF ELFHAME, and THE WILD ROBOT by Peter Brown, which was made into an Oscar-nominated film and has sold over 7 million copies worldwide to date. More news about the imprint name, logo, and launch list will be shared in the new year.
Said LBYR President and Publisher Megan Tingley, “The opportunity to work with Alvina Ling is a golden ticket for any creator in the children’s book universe. She is a brilliant tastemaker who has a remarkable gift for attracting and developing literary and artistic talent, championing underrepresented voices, and bringing life-changing works of literature to young people. I have no doubt this imprint will continue her stellar trajectory.”
As Ling steps down from her Editor-in-Chief responsibilities, the editorial team will now be divided into two editorial groups, one focused on Young Reader (0–12) and the other on Older Readers and Upper Nonfiction (12+).
Erin Berger will join LBYR on November 10 in the newly created role of Vice President, Publishing Director, overseeing Picture Book, Middle Grade, and Graphic Publishing. Berger comes to HBG from Scholastic, where she served as Senior Vice President of Trade Marketing and Publicity for six years, following roles at Penguin Young Readers and Simon & Schuster. A 25-year veteran of the industry, Berger has a proven track record advising on acquisitions and collaborating with editors, authors, and agents to build their brands in the marketplace.
Some of the many notable projects Berger has worked on include the New York Times bestselling picture books ALL BECAUSE YOU MATTER by Tami Charles, illustrated by Bryan Collier; BE YOU! by Peter H. Reynolds; and THE THREE BILLY GOATS GRUFF by Mac Barnett, illustrated by Jon Klassen; classic brands such as Eric Carle’s THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR and the works of Roald Dahl; the middle grade franchises WINGS OF FIRE by Tui T. Sutherland and FRONT DESK by Kelly Yang; and the graphic novel series HEARTSTOPPER by Alice Oseman, Ann M. Martin’s THE BABY-SITTERS CLUB (various illustrators), and Raina Telgemeier and Scott McCloud’s The Cartoonists Club. Said Berger, “I have long admired the brilliant editorial vision behind LBYR’s highly curated, award-winning, and bestselling list. After more than two decades working on the marketing and publicity side of publishing, I am eager to leverage my expertise into this editorial leadership role and work with my acclaimed colleagues on creative strategies to support our authors and reach our readers.”
Lisa Yoskowitz, formerly Vice President, Executive Editorial Director, has been promoted to Vice President, Publishing Director, overseeing LBYR’s titles for older readers, including the Young Adult, New Adult, and Upper Nonfiction categories. Yoskowitz joined LBYR in 2014 following roles at Dutton and Disney-Hyperion and is the founder of Requited—LBYR’s recently launched new adult imprint. Her resumé touts a long list of acclaimed and bestselling titles, including the #1 New York Times bestselling INHERITANCE GAMES saga by Jennifer Lynn Barnes and STAMPED: RACISM, ANTIRACISM, AND YOU by Jason Reynolds and Ibram X. Kendi, as well as bestselling works by Ibtihaj Muhammad, Clint Smith, Tess Sharpe, and Tamara Ireland Stone. In her new role, Yoskowitz will bring her editorial vision and industry expertise to the task of overseeing LBYR and Requited’s portfolio of books for ages 12+ and expanding their presence in the ebook and audiobook market, while continuing to acquire and edit select titles for both lists.
Of the changes, Tingley said, “We are thrilled to welcome Erin Berger, who has a wealth of experience and is energized to strengthen our publishing strategy for picture books, middle grade, and graphic novels. And Lisa Yoskowitz, who will be overseeing young adult, new adult, and nonfiction, has the rare combination of editorial chops and business savvy that has helped us innovate and grow for the past ten years. I am confident our outstanding team of editors and our authors will thrive under this new leadership structure.”
